DEG Environmental Ltd was started to help divert some of the thousands of tonnes of fuel contaminated soil that is sent to landfills regularly.
This easily recyclable soil fills a landfill prematurely, taking years off its useful life.
The dumping and spreading of fuel contaminated soil at a landfill also increases the risk of fugitive emissions of the highly volatile, aromatic components of the spilled fuel.
At DEG Environmental Ltd's engineered site, the soil is dumped and stored indoors. The screening of the soil is completed indoors as well, with the microbe solution added during the screening process. A vapour hood captures any fugitive emissions which are drawn through a two stage activated charcoal filter.
Once placed in a treatment cell, the soil is then covered with an impermeable cover to further prevent any emissions as well as prevent any run off from rain.
